Model comparisons in unstable environments

چکیده
The goal of this paper is to develop formal tests to evaluate the relative in-sample performance of two competing, misspeci ed non-nested models in the presence of possible data instability. Compared to previous approaches to model selection, which are based on measures of global performance, we focus on the local relative performance of the models. We propose three tests that are based on di¤erent measures of local performance and that correspond to di¤erent null and alternative hypotheses. The empirical application provides insights into the time variation in the performance of a representative DSGE model of the European economy relative to that of VARs. Keywords: Model Selection Tests, Misspeci cation, Structural Change, Kullback-Leibler Information Criterion Acknowledgments: We are grateful to M. del Negro, F. Smets, R. Wouters, W.B. Wu and Z. Flows of natural hydro-environments are usually turbulent and mostly stratified, like the flows in lakes, reservoirs, estuaries and atmosphere to name a few. In stratified flows due to the buoyancy forces, the turbulent stresses are usually non-isotropic. Therefore the accuracy of the numerical simulations for such flows is highly dependent on the turbulence model and the implementation of non-...
متن کاملUsing a Fuzzy Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average Model for Exchange Rate Forecasting
Forecasting models have wide applications in decision making. In the real world, rapid changes normally take place in different areas, specifically in financial markets. Collecting the required data is a main problem for forecasters in such unstable environments. Forecasting methods such as Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) models and also Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) need ...

متن کاملDetermining Optimal Number of Suppliers in a Multiple Sourcing Model under Stochastic Lead Times
Employing more than one supplier and splitting orders between them is a strategy employed in supply chains to lessen the lead-time risk in unstable environments. In this paper we present a multiple-sourcing inventory system with stochastic lead-times and constant demand controlled by a continuous review, reorder point-order quantity inventory policy. We consider the situation in which the order...
متن کاملDifferent mechanisms involved in adaptation to stable and unstable dynamics.
Recently, we demonstrated that humans can learn to make accurate movements in an unstable environment by controlling magnitude, shape, and orientation of the endpoint impedance. Although previous studies of human motor learning suggest that the brain acquires an inverse dynamics model of the novel environment, it is not known whether this control mechanism is operative in unstable environments....
متن کاملAMMI Analysis of Wheat Substitution Lines for Detecting Genes Controlling Adaptability
To locate the genes controlling adaptability in bread wheat using AMMI (additive main effect and multiplicative interaction) model, twenty-one substitution lines derived from the parents Chinese Spring (recipient) and Chayan (donor) were used in a randomized complete block design with three replications in three different environments in the Agricultural College of Razi University, Kermanshah, ...
